The environment at the heart of our industrial performance

Combining excellence and sustainable development

At EUROPAFI, we have made respect for the environment and sustainable development a major strategic focus. Our ambition is clear: to combine industrial excellence with responsibility by taking concrete action to preserve natural resources, limit our carbon footprint and build a sustainable future. Every action we take is part of a strategy of overall performance, technical progress and environmental protection in collaboration with our stakeholders.

What kind of energy transition for sustainable development ?

The energy transition is at the heart of our industrial policy and strategy. Mindful of our responsibility, since 2019 we have been undertaking ambitious energy transition projects aimed at decarbonising our manufacturing processes and reducing greenhouse gas emissions.

Thanks to our high-performance industrial facilities, a sustained investment programme and the continuous improvement of our practices, we have already significantly reduced our greenhouse gas emissions.

Our goal is clear: to reduce our emissions by 75% by 2030. To achieve this, we are developing an innovative project for hybrid steam production, based on the use of an electric boiler. Powered by French electricity, which is largely decarbonised, this facility is one of our innovative solutions for significantly reducing fossil fuel consumption while ensuring reliable, responsible and environmentally friendly production.

These investments reflect our commitment to continuously improving our energy efficiency and strengthening the sustainability of our production facilities.

Exemplary water management

Water is a vital resource that we are committed to preserving as part of our sustainable development policy. For more than two decades, EUROPAFI has been applying a rigorous approach to water management and conservation :

  • Significant three-fold reduction in consumption over a period of 20 years.
  • Reuse of water in the industrial process, limiting extraction and optimising production cycles.
  • Implementation of a streamlined water use plan based on conservation, recycling and technical performance.
  • Controlled release into the natural environment: 90% of the water extracted is returned after treatment in our internal treatment plant, with continuous monitoring of parameters, in accordance with our prefectural decree.

These results demonstrate our commitment to combining industrial performance with responsible water resource management.

Innovating with responsable fibres and sustainable pratices

With a view to reducing its environmental impact, EUROPAFI is investing in research and development into alternative fibres to traditionally grown cotton, which is mainly used in the banknote paper industry :

  • Studies on hemp, a local fibre that is robust and has less impact than conventional cotton.
  • Use of organic cotton, grown without pesticides or chemical fertilisers, guaranteeing traceability and less pressure on ecosystems.

These choices are part of a consistent sustainable development approach to selecting responsible raw materials and sustainable practices, in line with our industrial commitments.

Exemplary waste recover

Waste management is seen as an opportunity for transformation and the circular economy, in the service of sustainable development:

  • 98% of waste is recovered, with priority given to material recycling.
  • Implementation of sorting, recycling and reintegration channels in our industrial processes.
  • Rigorous monitoring of flows and continuous improvement of our management practices.

This performance reflects our commitment to limiting the environmental impact of our activity while strengthening the efficiency of our organisation.

An environmentally friendly and responsible site

Our production site incorporates approaches that respect the environment and the consumption of resources and energy. This structural commitment reinforces our desire to reconcile industrial performance with sustainable development.

Reducing our footprint, transforming our practices, anticipating tomorrow's challenges: at EUROPAFI, the environment is not a constraint, it is a responsibility that we fully embrace.
